“Wow, I need to read this one every year!”
I had just slammed the book closed, mind racing, feeling excited about my plans for the year.
So you know, I don’t do that very often. But with Million Dollar Weekend, it was my first reaction, like that feeling you get at the end of an amazing vacation.
This book is so jam packed with tips and processes and templates, there’s no way you can absorb it all in one reading. And even if you can (cuz you’re such a smarty pants!), you’ll probably need the reminder next year. So you may as well mark your calendar. Twelve months from now, you should read this one again!
Written by Noah Kagan, Million Dollar Weekend is one of the best entrepreneurial books I’ve ever read. I feel as if I just had a month of one-on-one coaching with him. Every question is answered, and I have some good ideas about what I can do to move my business forward.
Practical, yes! Complete, yes! Motivational, yes!
About the Author
Noah Kagan is the Chief Sumo at AppSumo.com, where he helps entrepreneurs build uber-successful businesses. Before that, he was a cubicle monkey at Intel, #30 at Facebook, and #4 at Mint.
This is a guy who makes and breaks rules. He knows the best practices, but he also knows when they aren’t working. So he’s a master of workarounds. I imagine he does five scary things before breakfast every day. And when he’s working with wanna-be entrepreneurs, he demands action and accountability.
That said, he’s one of the nicest people on the planet. Funny. Helpful. And willing to put himself out there to help you feel more comfortable doing the scary things he tells you to do.
Like challenging himself to build a business in 48 hours.
My Takeaways
When I learned that Noah had written a book, I jumped at the chance to read it. He’s got a long track record of sharing the reality of entrepreneurship. He shares the ups and downs, the successes and the failures.
It’s no different in Million Dollar Weekend. He doesn’t hide the fact that he was fired from Facebook or wasn’t experienced enough to take on his marketing role at Mint. He tells us plainly about his struggles, how he faced them, and how he developed the business-building process that turned his own idea into a $65 million per year company.
Even better, he shares that process with you — every detail, with examples and illustrations. When you’re done, you’ll feel like you’re finally standing on solid ground. You know what it’s going to take to grow a successful business, and you feel confident that you can do it.
That’s the deep lesson here: “Entrepreneurship is about learning about yourself and empowering yourself to realize what you can do in your life.”
Which means you don’t need to be afraid of your fear. You just need to work through it. And Noah is right beside you, cheering you on as you read this book.
As he says, “This is not a book that you read and do nothing with. Each chapter contains tried-and-tested challenges I’ve developed to get wantrepreneurs out of their comfort zones and into the end zone.”
Million Dollar Weekend is divided into three sections:
- Start it
- Build it
- Grow it
Each section has the specific workflows and processes you need to master to take your business to the next level. So no matter where you are in your entrepreneurial journey, you’ll learn something that will help you improve your game.
Even if you’ve been doing this for a decade or more, like I have, you’re going to want to take notes. Because no one is better than Noah at turning vague best practices into a playbook for success.
Like I said, I know I should probably read this one every year. I’ll find the next layer of challenges I need to work on, and I’ll be reminded anew about the basics.
For entrepreneurs and wantrepreneurs, Million Dollar Weekend is a must-read. Get the book now. You can thank me later.
