I’m not gonna lie: 2020 has been a hard, unsettling year. The pandemic, combined with a high-stress election, brought a lot of uncertainty.
But if I’ve learned anything throughout the years, it’s that there never was such a thing as certainty.
As you move towards your goals, you can expect to hit speed bumps, detours, and roadblocks. How you handle them is what determines your future.
This is actually a hugely important topic for me.
I’m the type who dreams big and aims high. Weirdly, I’m also very realistic. I don’t like to waste time pursuing goals that I’ll never be able to achieve.
So it’s important to be able to see clearly what’s in front of me and what’s possible for the situation.
This is precisely the kind of thinking I want you to bring to the table today.
You’ve got goals. You want to grow your business or career. A pandemic doesn’t have to stop you from moving forward.
So prepare for setbacks. Cultivate a mindset that helps you handle those setbacks with grace, while developing strategies (in advance) for anything that could go wrong.
If you want to succeed in 2021, you need to think like a growth strategist. When you don’t get the results you’re looking for, start looking for new ways to approach your situation.
- Is there another way to achieve your goal?
- Is there another tool or tactic that might work better?
- Has your market changed? Do you need to tweak your product or offer?
- Can you double-down on an area of your business that is working?
With a growth mindset, the goal is to move forward, always forward — regardless of the challenges. Don’t fall in love with specific tactics and processes. Measure the progress you’re making, and try to push the limits of what’s possible.
Challenges don’t have to stop you. They’re expected. Put your energy into driving results.
