NOTES:
What is authority? We talked about this in Episode 2.
- Leadership
- Influence
- The ability to shape, sway, and persuade
But it comes with a responsibility.
- You generously share your ideas.
- You help other people succeed.
- You educate and inform.
Authority isn’t a personal thing. It’s not about you.
The old question: If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, did it make a sound? If an authority hides away in a cave and no one hears her, is she really an authority?
No.
An authority shares her expertise, her knowledge, her stories — so each generation of the human race has more potential, instead of learning everything from scratch over and over again.
So what are you doing to give back? What are you doing to unleash your knowledge?
- Blog
- Start a business
- Coach or mentor
- Write a book ← greatest potential to help people even beyond your life.
Examples:
- Eugene Schwartz – Breakthrough Advertising
- Claud Hopkins – Scientific Advertising
- Napoleon Hill – Think and Grow Rich
- Plato and the philosophers
- Shakespeare – all the phrases we use that come from his plays. “There’s something rotten in Denmark.”
Why do we hesitate?
- Introvert / shy
- Too busy
- We don’t see our own expertise
- We’re uncomfortable stepping into authority (seems prideful)
If you have something that would raise human potential, you owe it to the world to share it.
There’s no better way to do that than to write a book.
I do book writing coaching and editing. And I work with authors to promote their books on the Business & Growth Book Club. Contact me to learn more.
