Social media marketing has definitely found its way into the mainstream marketing toolbox. In fact, it’s fast becoming one of our favorite tools.
According to a recent study by Alterian, each of us has the potential to receive more than 100,000 social requests per day. The top state for social asks is Indiana. (What would have guessed?) And the U.S. has nearly 3,000% more social asks than Canada.
What’s a social ask? It’s any request to follow, like, become a fan of, or check in. You see them on TV, billboards, websites, magazines and even book jackets. Companies and individuals have pretty much put out the social welcome mat since the number of followers and likes are now considered a metric for influence and brand awareness.
It’s important to note that these numbers aren’t perfectly accurate. The number of followers doesn’t always reflect engagement. So when it comes to metrics in social media, we’re still feeling our way around. For the most part, marketers understand that and are happy to experiment with social media and see how it will affect the measurements that really matter: sales and profitability.
